Its a known fact that there are a lot of Indians, especially those from a non-urban background, are not very well versed with table manners. By table manners I don't mean using the appropriate utensils - even most 'urbans' don't know so much about which fork gets used for what !
I mean the more sinful ones - burping, talking with mouth open, noisy chewing.
My only question is now : what does one do when one chances to eat beside such a person?
Is there a way of letting them know that they're being improper, or is sitting through the ordeal the only way to go?

If I were you, I would go by the saying "In Rome be a Roman". Make them feel comfortable by following what they do.

k, i had to faced this issue whr i had to hv lunch wid a person, who used to chew with his mouth open... wel i just started looking towards him, with my mouth closed while chewing , while he was still chewing wid his mouth wide open and talking.... believe me or not, he realized in few mins his mistake !!!
so, probably u can send a mail from an anonymous mail id to a whole group, describing abt gud manners !!! or something more innovative ;)
do the same and show how annoying it is, making others fully aware of what u are really trying to do. else they'll think u are one of them!
